The Library

The Library provide personal consultations, various trainings are organized to introduce students to the information stored in the library, the possibilities of searching for this information, newly implemented systems (introductory training for first-year students, information literacy training, eLABa training).

Modern spaces are available in the Library for both independent and group work. There are 73 workplaces (14 - computerized). Students can use copying, printing, and scanning services, popular is teamwork space, where lectures, training, education, seminars, and meetings are regularly held.  

The Library is open to everyone. Anyone can visit the Library, read publications on site, or obtain other information. Registered Library readers (students and employees) can borrow books to take home, use subscribed electronic resources, consult, and participate in traditional and distance learning.

Library is equipped with EZproxy software, which provides access to e-books and scientific information resources in subscribed databases, accessing it also from remote computers. Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija / Higher Education Institution Virtual Library has an integrated search system that allows to search Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija / Higher Education Institution library resources, the Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library (eLABa), subscribed databases, and open access electronic resources.

Study and self-study spaces

The bright and modern spaces in the library are adapted for both independent and group work. The library of Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija (ŠVK) has 73 work places for visitors, 14 of which are computerised. Students can use a variety of computer-based applications for creating drawings and modelling complex two-dimensional and three-dimensional structures.

The library is open to everyone. Anyone can visit the library, read publications on site, or get other information. Registered readers of the library (students and employees) can borrow books to take home, use subscribed electronic resources, get consultations and participate in traditional and distance learning.

Lending publications

Publications for home borrowing are available to ŠVK community members only.

 •    You can search for publications and place home borrowing orders in the ŠVK Virtual Library (all members of the ŠVK community with their ŠVK ID can access the ŠVK Virtual Library).

 •    Publications can be borrowed for a period of three days till the end of the semester, depending on demand and the number of copies available.

 •   Reading room publications can be used only in the library premises (exceptions are possible, ask the librarian).
•    Information on the deadlines for returning publications and late payment interest can be viewed by users in the virtual library by logging into personal account (using personal SVAKO ID to log in) and at self-service book lending / return machine with a personal identity card.
•    If the publication is not reserved by another user, the deadline for the return of the publication can be extended in the virtual library by logging into your account or by requesting by phone or e-mail.
•    Only one copy of the document of the same title can be issued to users.
 

Printing, copying, and scanning

The library offers paid printing, copying and scanning services. The library offers A4 printing / black and white copying and A1, A2, A3, A4 scanning of documents.

The library has wireless internet.

 

The settlement sheet of Šiaulių valstybinė kolegija graduates and students who have withdrawn from studies is only signed if there are no debts to the library (non-returned publications or unpaid fees).

Late payment interest for publications not returned on time begins accruing at the end of the return deadline and stops accruing once the publication is returned. The system calculates default interest of EUR 0.03 for each day of delay in returning a copy taken from the library. If the publication is taken from the reading room, the system calculates EUR 0.29 for each day of delay.

If up to EUR 3 of late payment interest accrues during the entire year of studies or work year, it is written off at the time of settlement with the library and the user does not have to pay anything.

The maximum amount of late payment interest is 1 BSI (one basic social benefit).

If the amount of late payment interest exceeds EUR 3, documents will not be issued for home borrowing, and loan deadlines will not be extended. Borrowing privileges are restored once the outstanding interest has been paid.

Information about books taken from the library, their return terms and late payment interest can be found by:
•    logging in to your reader’s account in the virtual library (use your SVAKO ID to log in);

 •    logging in to self-service book lending / return machine with a personal identity card;
•    calling the library by phone;
•    visiting any branch of the library.

Payments can be made at the ŠVK cash desk (by bank card only), online or at the bank.

The library is equipped with 14 computerized workplaces for visitors. Students can use various applications installed on computers, the Internet, and following devices:

•    Self-service book lending / return machine SelfCheck 500
This machine allows readers to borrow and return books on their own.

•    Print / copy self-service machine Bizhub 423
The machine is designed to print and copy A4 black and white documents.

•    Wide-format drum scanner Contex SD 3600
The scanner can scan documents up to 36 inches wide. Scanning resolution – up to 1200 dpi.
 
The library is accessible to persons with reduced mobility:

•    HIGH CONTRAST KEYBOARD for the visually impaired.

•    Topaz XL HD Image Magnifier is a device for the visually impaired that allows users to choose the size and position of the image on the screen of a document being read.

•    Brilliant BI 40 Portable Electronic Braille Device is an electronic recording device for Braille users to read and write. The device connects to a computer, phone or tablet.
